Pleasanton

Pleasanton is a city in Alameda County located about 25 miles east of Oakland, and 6 miles west of Livermore. According to the 2010 United States Census, Pleasanton’s population was 70,285. The magazine “USA Today” ranked Pleasanton number 4 in “America’s 50 best cities to live in” in 2014. Like nearby Alamo, Pleasanton is considered to be one of the wealthiest cities in the San Francisco Bay Area. Pleasanton was also the headquarters of the former PeopleSoft, Inc. Oracle acquired PeopleSoft and maintains the former campus as a major division and is the fourth-largest employer in Pleasanton, behind Workday, Safeway and Kaiser Permanente. In addition, Pleasanton is the site of a large AT&T campus. Notable people from Pleasanton include cartoonist and creator of Dilbert Scott Adams, pro baseball player for the San Francisco Giants Brandon Crawford, US Congressman Jerry McNerney, and 2014 Nobel Prize laureate in chemistry William Moerner.
