Alamo

Alamo, located in Contra Costa County, is an unincorporated community which sits at the northern end of the 20 mile-long San Ramon Valley. Flanking Alamo on the west and east sides are two Coast Ranges − the Las Trampas Ridge and the Diablo Range respectively. Just to the north of Alamo lies the city of Walnut Creek. San Francisco is 28 miles to the west and San Jose is 46 miles to the south, both of which have international airports. Alamo (from the Spanish álamo, “poplar”) was named for the poplar trees that lined San Ramon Creek. The 2010 United States Census reported that Alamo had a population of 14,570 and was noted as one of the wealthiest communities in the United States due to the a median household income of $140,561 (as of 2011). Notable residents from Alamo include St. Louis Cardinals manager Tony La Russa, Olympic gold medalist Kristi Yamaguchi, and David Duffield CEO of Workday, Inc and currently on Forbes List of billionaires.
